GU wallops Nico 1-0

05 Dec 2013

Nico’s goalkeeper Basimanebotlhe Moilwa’s mistake of not handling a soft high ball near his goal posts in the second half cost his team a one-nil loss to Gaborone United.

Basimanebotlhe caused his side to lose when he tried to use his hands to clear the high ball away but unfortunately tapped the ball towards a well-positioned striker, Mandla Mgadla, who easily headed the ball into the net.

This goal gave way for GU to become the winners of the game while Selebi-Phikwe-based outfit, Nico United, found themselves on the losers end. Nico United played well but failed to redeem themselves because GU intensified their game plan giving Nico no chances to penetrate their defence to try and make an equalizer. Gaborone United players Ronald Chikomo and Mandla Mgadla had numerous opportunities to score but either hit the ball wide or above the goals.

Nico United also displayed good football as they managed to close GU and hold them to only one goal. The Selebi-Phikwe team had a number of chances to come back to the game but wasted them all. At one point in the second half, Nico’s coach Kenneth Mogae was sent of the pitch by match referee Mooketsi Mbekwa.

This did not deter Selebi Phikwe side from keeping up with GU and maintaining their game plan. The game ended with a 1-0 win to GU. ENDS
