The Mares seek vengeance today

30 Oct 2023

Today, a highly motivated, sharp and ready to fight women senior national team, The Mares, is what is all needed.

It requires them to be in a mean mood when they host Twiga Stars of Tanzania in the return leg of the CAF Women’s Olympic qualifiers at the National Stadium.

That only means the team’s head coach, Mohambi Saulos and psychologist should ensure that players are mentally ready for the fight.

This is in order to avenge the 2-0 loss against Twiga Stars in the first leg of the tournament played at Azam Complex Stadium, Dar es Salaam, Tanzania on October 26.

The Mares would have to take full advantage of the home ground advantage and reverse the score and win the clash if they want to proceed to the next stage of the qualifiers and that would require that they score three goals and deny the visitors any.

In an interview, the gaffer, Saulos said Twiga Stars should be ready for fierce vengeance kicks from The Mares.

“We are going to try to close the spaces and be quick. We are not going to defend deep, but we are going to give them a run for their money because we have to score,” Saulos said.

In their past Tokyo Olympic qualifying games, The Mares started on a high note winning with an aggregate of 3-2 against Namibia.

They went on to humiliate and shock Banyana Banyana of South Africa, edging them 3-2 via penalties.

However, The Mares’ dreams to proceed with the tournament were shattered by The Copper Queens of Zambia with an aggregate of 3-0.

Today, it will be a do or die moment for the local ladies in front of their local supporters. Ends
