24 Oct 2023

The Minister of Youth, Sport, Gender and Culture Mr Tumiso Rakgare on October 21 donated three bulls in the Okavango District.

The donations were part of President Mokgweetsi Masisi’s bull donation initiative aimed at improving the quality of Botswana’s cattle industry.

The beneficiaries were Ms Tshaaxane Xwie of Nqauku cattlepost in Nokaneng, Mr Mosiela Mohako of D3YL Xabekae cattlepost in Gumare and Mr Malebogo Sarefo of Etsha 4 cattlepost. The bulls were two Simmentals and a Red Brahman.

Mr Rakgare called on beneficiaries to study the bulls to better understand them and consult the veterinary department if the bulls showed signs of being unwell.

He urged the recipients to share the bulls with other farmers in their respective areas to improve the quality of their livestock and boost the declining cattle population.

The three beneficiaries thanked the President for the bulls as they never expected to own bulls of this calibre.

Meanwhile, the Minister of Communication, Knowledge and Technology, Mr Thulagano Segokgo also donated three bulls in Maun East constituency still under the Presidential bull initiative.

The beneficiaries were Mr Amogelang Manja of Xaamote cattlepost, Mr Phuthegang Morojwa of Kgantshang cattlepost and Mr Tobang Dintshaletse also of Kgantshang cattlepost.

Mr Segokgo urged the beneficiaries to have the spirit of sharing with other farmers to upgrade their livestock.

He pleaded with farmers to take care of the bulls and consult the veterinary department if there were any changes on the bulls regarding their wellbeing.

He pleaded with farmers to make use of the Ramatlabama Artificial Insemination Centre to upgrade their livestock.

The farmers were optimistic that the bulls would improve the quality of their herds. President Masisi recently donated 40 pedigree bulls in Okavango, Ngamiland, Maun East and Maun West. ENDS
