Ministry deploys in-house teams for roads maintenance8232

In-house teams have been deployed to work on the Phathane/Kareng, Kareng/Tsau and Toteng/Bodibeng roads by December 1. Minister of Transport and Communications, Mr Nonofo Molefhi informed Parliament that the teams will be performing activities of grading and spot improvement

Concerning Nokaneng/Qangwa road, he said, there was a contractor performing the routine maintenance activities of grading and spot improvement. He said the works commenced on October 5 and will be completed on October 4. Mr Molefhi said due to financial constraints, the roads to Xaixai and Magopa Border Post (Dobe) were not planned for in the short term.


He said in the long term, only two roads Kareng/Tsau and Toteng/Bodibeng were planned for upgrading and spot improvement. Mr Molefhi said currently documents for the two projects were being prepared and expected commencements of the projects were envisaged for April 2014. He was responding to questions asked by Ngami MP, Mr Taolo Habano, who had asked the minister if he was aware of the state of the said roads.


Mr Habano had also asked the minister to state short and long term plans to assist the residents and other members of the public to access these settlements before the roads are damaged by the first rains. ENDS
