MaunShakawe road needs maintenance

Minister of Transport and Communications, Mr Nonofo Molefhi has informed Parliament that the road from Maun to Shakawe is in a bad state.


He also admitted that the road had passed its life span and therefore due for reconstruction. He said the road could not be reconstructed due to financial constraints.
 He also noted that maintenance interventions were planned for the next financial year as Maun/Sehithwa road was planned to be re-sealed for the entire 94 km.


The minister said tender documents had been submitted to PPADB for vetting while money for the commencement of the project was envisaged to next financial year.
 The Sehithwa-Tsau road is done through routine works now maintenance by in-house teams.


Minister Molefhi said for the 70 km Tsau-Nokaneng road, the plan was to have asphalt overlay for the entire road and commencement was envisaged for next financial year.
 He said tender documents have also been submitted to PPADB for vetting while the project is expected to start in the first quarter of 2014/15 financial year.


The Nokaneng/Shakawe road is done through normal routine maintenance by in-house teams.
 Ngami MP, Mr Taolo Habano had asked the minister whether the Maun/Shakawe tarred road was not in the maintenance priority list for the 2013/14 or 2014/15 financial year, if not, when will the road be maintained since its life span had long expired.


MP Habano had also wanted to know if the minister was aware that the road was in a bad state and needed urgent attention. Ends
