Murder accused, Gomolemo Mmotlanyana, has raised concerns about the invasion of his privacy by journalists who he accused of publicising his personal life.
During a recent court hearing before Magistrate Goratile Moremi-Ramakoloi of the Broadhurst Magistrate’s Court, the accused expressed his frustration with the media’s intrusion into his personal affairs.
He said the constant exposure of his private life had caused him significant distress and had a negative impact on his reputation.
“I have seen how these journalists have posted the news of my personal life and I do not like it,” he said.
Magistrate Moremi-Ramakoloi acknowledged Mmotlanyana’s concerns regarding the media’s intrusion into his personal life and advised him to take up the matter with the broadcasting complaints body or other relevant entities if he felt that the media was not doing him justice.
The Magistrate urged the media to exercise responsible journalism and to ensure that they were cautious when covering court cases.
Meanwhile, Mmotlanyana has applied for bail at the High Court and is currently awaiting the court’s ruling on the issue.
The case will mention again on November 9, providing an opportunity for both the defence and the prosecution to present further evidence and arguments. Ends
