The Minister of Lands and Housing Mr Lebonaamang Mokalake has informed Parliament that Jao Islands are found in concession area NG24 in Ngamiland District with a total land mass in this concession area of approximately 5 300 000 hectares.


Mr Mokalake said NG24 had been allocated to the Okavango Jakotsha Community trust (OJCT) by Tawana Land Board for multi-purpose tourism activities.
 He said the head lease for the area was issued for a period of 15 years commencing in October 2000 and terminating in October 2015.


MP for Kgatleng West Mr Gilbert Mangole had asked the minister to state the total land mass and geographical location of Jao Island and whether the Island has been allocated to any individual by the relevant land authority.
 He further asked him to state when the allocation was made, for what purpose and the current land use for the island in question. Ends
