BDF XI complete last four

03 Dec 2013

BMC put up a splendid fight at the Molepolole Sports Complex on Monday, December 2,  when they came from two goals behind to level 2-2 with BDF XI.

However, their splendid performance amounted to nothing as BDF XI advanced to the last four of Mascom top 8, joining Township Rollers, Gaborone United and Nico United.

BDF XI won the two-legged encounter 3-3 and advanced on away goal after drawing 1-1 in the first leg. In the last quarter-final game of the Mascom top 8, BDF XI had seemingly put the game beyond BMC when they scored two goals before the break without any response from The Meat Boys.

BDF XI had taken the lead through Mokgathi Mokgathi before Saukani Zulu added the second. However, BMC defence should have done better to prevent Zulu from scoring, but instead just watched as he carefully chose a spot to slot home a shot that escaped the claws of Edwin Mokibe.

Despite trailing by two goals, BMC were not outplayed by their opponents, in fact they looked the better team most of the first half. After the break the Lobatse outfit increased pace and kept the visitors on their toes.

Their hard work paid in the 70th minute when the on form Sageby Sandaka slotted home after a corner-kick. The goal inspired BMC to push even harder and they were rewarded with six minutes left when second half substitute, Benedict Vilakazi slotted home after BDF XI goalkeeper, Takudzwa Ndoro had made two point blank saves in succession that his defence failed to clear in time.

After the goal, BMC felt a win was so close and pressed even further, and sensing the danger, BDF XI resorted to time wasting tactics and attracted a few yellow cards it the process. The display by BMC left many wondering why Ezinkomo had been having a tough time in the league, as they displayed a flowing game.

The stocky Hendrick Moyo appeared to have found his old form that made him a household name at the neighbouring Extension Gunners, while shot-stopper, Mokibe made a number of crucial saves that kept his team in the game. The last draw of the competition will be conducted at Gaborone bus rank on Thursday (December 5) at noon. ENDS
