Duba Island located in NG23
03 Dec 2013
Parliament has been informed that Duba Island is located in concession area NG23, which forms part of the Okavango Delta in the Ngamiland District and the total land mass allocated is approximately 3 400 000 hectres.
Responding to a Parliamentary question on Monday, December 2, the Minister of Lands and Housing, Mr Lebonaamang Mokalake said the concession area was allocated to Okavango Community Trust by Tawana Land Board in April 1996 for multi-purpose tourism activities and the head lease expired in April 2011.
“Following this, the trust applied for renewal of the lease, but the land board issued a conditional approval that any joint venture partner and or subleasing be procured through a public tender.
However, due to some disagreements between the parties, the matter is before the courts,” he said. MP for Kgatleng West, Mr Gilbert Mangole had wanted the minister to state the total land mass and geographical location of Duba Island and whether the land had been allocated to any individual by the relevant land authority and if so, who were they allocated to.
He had also wanted to know when this allocation was made and for what purpose, while the minister had also to state the current land use for the Island in question. ENDS
