The senior national women football team, The Mares first assistant coach welcomes the group the team has been placed in for the 10th 2023 COSAFA Women’s Championship.
The Mares has been placed in Group C together with Namibia, Lesotho and Zimbabwe during a draw conducted in Boksburg, South Africa on Thursday.
The tournament will be played in Johannesburg, South Africa from October 4-15.
According to Gaolethoo Nkutlwisang, the team had been placed in a fair group adding that the team, which could pose a danger, was Namibia.
“We have assembled a formidable squad and I think they are very hungry for success. Remember we have never won this championship,” she said.
She said she was cognizant of the fact that The Mares schedule was congested and therefore that would mean that they give other players who had just graduated from the junior teams a run.
Nkutlwisang further said as the senior technical team, they would have a conversation with junior team coaches to prepare those who were on the verge of graduating to the senior team.
She said she was aware that the country had never lifted the COSAFA trophy and it was their dream to win this year’s tournament.
Meanwhile, Group A is made up of South Africa, Malawi, Madagascar and eSwatini, while Group B has defending champions Zambia, Mozambique, Angola and Comoros. ENDS
