Badminton prioritises constitution amendment

The revision of the Botswana Badmington Association (BBA)’s constitution is a key task on the agenda for the newly formed committee, says association’s acting president Essence Gaodumelwe.
Speaking during the association’s Annual General Meeting in Gaborone on Saturday, Gaodumelwe said amending the constitution and ensuring that BBA members were in good compliance were the committee’s current top priorities.
“Finally, the dead end of overhauling the constitution has come to an end and Register of Societies has given the association the green light to engage in the exercise to overhaul the constitution that was legalised on October 21, 1991,” he said.
He stated that the exercise had been on the shelves for the past decades, as it was challenged in 2014, 2016 and 2018 respectively.
“Moreover, at a meeting hosted by Botswana National Sports Commission (BNSC) on May 30, with four members of exco, we promised BNSC that before the end of this year, the constitution of the association would be in good standing,” he said.
Gaodumelwe said BBA’s future would never be secure as long as there was still load shedding in sports governance and constitution literacy.
So in moving badminton forward, he said BBA would accelerate its efforts to ensure that skill development and technical competence within its education programmes were better aligned to its needs.
“In this, we shall remain constant in our goal of developing the requisite skills base to meet the demands of today’s globalised economy,” he said.
On other issues, Gaodumelwe said the Shuttletime Deployment programme had been instrumental in introducing badminton to children and promoting the sport’s values of respect, teamwork and sportsmanship.
“We are pleased to report that the programme’s continuity has been maintained and will continue to play an essential role in the development of badminton in the country,” he said.
Gaodumelwe also congratulated national coordinator, Muniovanda Kandjou on being named Humans Shuttle Time Honour as the finest Shuttle Time Coordinator for the month of September on the African continent. Ends
