Police IX book cup finals berth

Police IX has booked a spot in the Southern Zone-Archein Independence tournament with dominant victories over the weekend.
A thrilling 10-0 victory against BDF IX followed by 8-1 hammering of Panthers was enough for Police IX to secure a place in the Independence Cup finals.
Following the appointment of Rannaneng ‘Rex’ Mothudi as the club captain, deputised by Kaone Sekate, Police IX kicked-started their desire to qualify for the finals on a high note and hit the ground running registering two quick runs in the first inning.
The police team was off the blocks the quickest and went on the offensive with Tefo Ntswaneng hitting a beautiful fading double into left field, which tracked over the foul line into the left field corner registering the first home run of the innings.
In the top of the first inning, with a runner on base, Ntswaneng sent the first pitch over the left field fence to give his team an early two run lead.
After being on the back foot for long, BDF IX batters warmed up in the final inning but brilliant fielding by Police IX denied the army team even a single run on the board with the game ending 10-0 in favour of Police IX.
With a whitewash win against fierce rival, BDF IX, Police IX approved their second game against Panthers with some wind beneath their wings with Kagiso Magetse dominant with the bat, hitting home runs to cement Police’s dominance heading to the finals.
Despite a heavy defeat to Police IX, BDF IX nonetheless also booked a place in the final following 3-1 victories against Gatalamotho and a 4-1 win against UB giants.
Meanwhile, Police IX ladies also booked place in the finals with two straight victories against Vikings and Titans respectively after the games were moved from National Diamond to University of Botswana.
Similarly, in the northern zone games, Rebels, Carats and Scramblers have also qualified for the Independence Cup finals in the men’s section while Rail Giants and Ghetto Yankees will represent the ladies in the finals.
The finals will be played during the Independence Day holidays and this will be the second edition of the tournament. Ends
