Gaborone United (GU) is lying in wait for Elgeco Plus of Madagascar as they meet for the CAF Confederations Cup first preliminary round leg at the National Stadium on Saturday.

And according to GU coach, Pontsho Moloi they were ready for the visitors even though they were a closed book. “We had couple of friendly games as a way of trying to gauge ourselves. All in all, I think we are on the right track and we are very happy with what we are doing on the training pitch,” he said.

Moloi said in an interview on Tuesday that their plan was to procced to the next round and ultimately make it to the round stages.

“We want to do better than we did last season. So we will fight as much as we can and we will give our best,” he said.

GU captain, Mpho Kgaswane said they had prepared well for the clash. Their main doing, he said was that they did not have enough time to play competitive games as the domestic league was yet to start.

“Most of the teams we will be competing with, have had game time, whereas we are a little bit rusty. We might play friendly games but at the end, we need to play league games to gauge us,” he said.

The captain said they were ready and all the players were in good spirit and all looking forward to the Saturday game.

Another GU player, Lebogang Ditsile said their intention was to make it to the group stages, adding that during the last campaign, they only managed to win their first leg but it proved to be difficult in the second leg. This time around, he was confident that the pool of players at GU had now gained experience and they knew what it meant to take part in a CAF competition.

“The intention is to finish with Elgeco Plus on Saturday, so that in the second leg we will defend our lead,” he said.

“Generally, I think we are ready for Saturday’s clash and let me plead with supporters to come to the National Stadium in large numbers and rally behind the team,” he said.. Ends
