Ministry not aware of Jubilee situation
01 Dec 2013
Assistant Minister of Health, Dr Gloria Somolekae says her ministry is not aware that mental attendants at Jubilee Hospital work under dangerous conditions.
Responding to a question in Parliament, Dr Somolekae said mental attendants were employed to assist nurses and doctors at the facility and there were measures in place to ensure high standards of health and safety of health workers such as availability of security and protective clothing which also covers mental attendants.
She said her ministry did not provide risk allowance to its health care workers including the mental attendants; therefore, there was no plan to pay risk allowance mental attendants.
Francistown South MP, Mr Wynter Mmolotsi had asked the minister whether he was aware of the dangerous conditions that mental attendants at Jubilee Hospital worked under: if, so, will she consider paying them risk allowance. Ends
