01 Dec 2013
Teachers’ quarters at Artesia Primary School in Kgatleng District were last renovated in 2004 whilst the head teacher’s house was renovated in May 2012, said Assistant Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Ms Botlogile Tshireletso.
Answering a question in Parliament, Ms Tshireletso said buildings under went cyclical maintenance every three to five years but this had not been possible due to budgetary constraints and instead council had undertaken minor maintenance of buildings using the handyman and Ipelegeng programme.
She said 13 out of 14 teachers’ quarters were in poor condition as there were no funds to carry out the required maintenance. She however, said the project would be included in the 2014/2015 budgeted.
Kgatleng West MP, Mr Gilbert Mangole had asked the minister, when the school were last renovated; to state schedule for routine maintenance and how many quarters were in a state of disrepair and when will they be attended to. Ends
