Nata fire station in transitional development plan

03 Aug 2023

The provision of fire services for Nata through the Public Private Partnership (PPP) model is included in the Transitional National Development Plan (TNDP).

Assistant Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Mr Sethabelo Modukanele, said his ministry acknowledged the importance of establishing a fire station in Nata due to the long distance covered by the Francistown and Sowa fire brigades.

Mr Modukanele also said he was aware of the unfortunate situation of veld fires across the Nata-Gweta area and the recent fire at Nata Senior Secondary School as well as the frequent road accidents on A3.

He added that preparations were underway to facilitate implementation of the fire stations project at Shakawe, Masunga, Tonota, Tutume, Nata, Gumare, Mahalapye, Hukuntsi, Ramotswa and Mmadinare during the TNDP.

Mr Modukanele also noted that the project would form part of the bids for the 2024/2025 financial year.

The MP for Nata-Gweta, Mr Polson Majaga, had asked the minister when construction of the Nata fire station would commence and whether he was aware of fire incidents in Nata and frequent road accidents on A3.

Mr Majaga also wanted reasons delaying the project since the budget was available. ENDS
