12 Jul 2023
There are 1 784 temporary teachers, 1 684 at secondary schools and 100 at primary schools engaged to reduced class size who are not yet employed on permanent and pensionable basis.
The Assistant Minister of Education and Skills Development, Mr Aubrey Lesaso said when responding to a parliamentary question on Tuesday that his ministry was finding a solution to the teachers’ workloads and class size which would determine the number of vacant positions to be created.
He said during the 2022/23 financial year his ministry created 2 042 positions for teachers at C Band. Because of budgetary constraints, his ministry created positions as desired.
“Nonetheless, the ministry continues to create C Band positions upon availability of funds,” he said.
Bobonong MP, Mr Taolo Lucas, had asked the minister to state the number of temporary teachers who have been permanently employed since 2020.
He wanted to know the number of temporary teachers who were not yet employed permanently and pensionably, and the plans for employment of the same.
Mr Lucas wanted to know the number of teacher positions in the establishment register. Ends
