Parliament winter session commences

About 18 bills are expected to be discussed during the 3rd Meeting of the 4th Session of the 12th Parliament, which commences today.

Speaking in an interview, Parliament chief public relations officer, Mr Silas Sehularo said of the 18 bills, six were carried over from the last sitting while 12 were new.

The six week-long session, which is also referred to as the winter session, will also discuss parliamentary committee reports.

He said proceedings would be held physically at the Parliament Chamber and broadcast live on Botswana Television as well as through the Parliament Facebook page.

He said the National Assembly had received 54 ordinary questions, four questions without notice, one question for the Leader of the House and seven ministers’ questions. 

He added that 30 private members motions were expected to be tabled during the session.

Mr Sehularo also said there were 196 questions, 27 ministers’ questions, five questions for Leader of the House and 30 private members’ motions as carry overs from the last meeting. 

He also clarified that the submission of questions was an ongoing exercise throughout the Parliamentary session.

During the last winter session some of the bills that were passed included the Standing Committee on Remuneration, Legal Practitioners Amendment Bill, Bank of Botswana Amendment Bill, Agricultural Charges Repeal Bill and Retirement Funds Bill. Ends
