Private companies’ commitment towards growing the country’s economy through increased investment is commendable. This was said by Minister of Labour and Home Affairs, Ms Anna Mokgethi at the opening of Mmopane Highway Spar recently.
Ms Mokgethi said customers would greatly benefit as goods would be brought within their proximity.
She applauded the company for expanding its operations during the period when the country’s economy had not experienced growth.
She said when the whole world was hit by COVID-19 and to-date businesses were grappling to monopolise their operations.
“The reason why I say this is that many businesses are closed up, but the Spar management deserves all praises for their resilient support to fight ahead,” she said.
She also expressed delighted that the Wentzel Group of companies’ management had been working tirelessly for over 31 years by bringing quality products and services to their customers.
She noted that the Wentzel Group of companies consisted of numerous citizen-owned companies, which included Pula Spar, Kwena Spar and Main Deck restaurant.
“I am pleased to say Mmopane Highway Spar has employed 120 staff members and this does not only provide job opportunities for residents but also contributes to economic growth of the area,’ she added.
She urged employees to be reliable and loyal to achieve departmental and organisational goals by adhering to acts, policies and guidelines in the workplace. For her part, Member of Parliament for Lentsweletau/Mmopane, Ms Nnaniki Makwinja thanked the Wentzel Group for bringing development to the constituency as part of bringing services to the community.
“I am delighted that Mmopane Highway Spar has brought a better picture in the village as the shop is known of its quality food products. It is a pleasure to see private companies being the driving force of the country’s economy and being able to create job opportunities to the unemployed,” Ms Makwinja said. She expressed hope that the store would prompt other development in the village including construction of a police station and senior secondary school.
Spar director, Mr Sean Wentzel said they designed the store as a flagship for the group and there was a whole lot of new concepts to be brought in terms of food, deliveries and ordering of hot foods.
“I think the community and the people on A11 Molepolole Road will come forth as we will have competitive prices because the more volume we do the more competitive we can be,” said Mr Wentzel. ENDS
