Cooperation key to development - chairperson
22 Jun 2023
North West District councillors have been urged work collectively to improve efficiency and services delivery.
The newly elected North West District Council chairperson, Mr Itumeleng Kelebetseng said this during a special council session meant to elect new committees in Maun Wednesday. He further called on councillors to put aside what recently happened and focus on deliberating on common issues that affected the district.
The council business came to a halt for three weeks following an urgent court application in which former council chairperson, Mr Kebareeditse Ntsogotlho and his deputy, Mr Lekonne Masoko challenged their removal from office. The case was dismissed with cost last week.
The development confirmed that Mr Kelebetseng and his deputy Mr Nico Folae could take their positions as chairperson and deputy respectively.
Mr Kelebetseng urged fellow councillors to participate effectively and efficiently to discuss and resolve pertinent issues that affected communities.
As the community’s representatives, he said they should be seen playing a key role in driving the council mandate, which was to improve the quality of life for all through effective and efficient delivery of basic infrastructure and social services in partnership with stakeholders.
He assured councillors that as the new leadership, they were committed to executive their duties diligently with support from fellow councillors. He also promised to work well with everyone irrespective of their party alignment as the key role was to bring services to the people.
He also noted that they would always refer to the Standing Orders as a guiding tool.
Mr Kelebetseng also thanked former chairperson and his deputy for showing commitment and hard work. Councillor Ntlogelang Kebonyekgotla proposed that the Standing Orders be reviewed saying some clauses were outdated and needed to be amendment to match current trends. Ends
