A recipient of 200 broiler chicks from Irvine’s Botswana has thanked President Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi for the gift, saying the gesture would definitely improve her life.

When receiving the one-day-old chicks in Molepolole on Friday, Ms Amogelang Seemane said, “The President has just made me rich.”

Ms Seemane is one of the 10 recipients of the chicks from Irvine’s Botswana, a company that had initially presented the gift to the President, who in turn passed them to Batswana to help improve their lives

She said she started her business with only 100 chicks, but was thankful the donation would give her an additional boost.

“Please help us, chicken feed is expensive and therefore it is important that you help us by buying from us,” she said.

Ms Seemane further thanked the Kweneng District Agricultural office for their continued support, saying she had always relied upon them for assistance ever since she started the business.

Kweneng District Agricultural technical officer, Mr Lepodise Telekelo said Ms Seemane was selected as she had been dedicated in her business, adding that it was her sole income revenue generator.

He said unlike other chicken businesses, the GaRanta ward resident had been consistent in her business as she never took a break after selling her produce.

Mr Andre Hoffman from Irvine’s Botswana said they donated the chicks and two bags of starter feed as per the President’s request.

He said this was their commitment to ensuring the country was food sufficient, adding that his company started as a backyard business in Harare in the 1950s.

Today it has expanded to several countries with their produce selling in the Sub-Saharan Africa.

Mr Hoffman said in addition to the donation, they would also offer continuous technical support. Ends
