Kgalagadi Breweries Limited (KBL) has been commended for initiating a new annual Corporate Social Responsibility community outreach programme.

The programme dubbed: Beyond the Brew, is aimed at reaching out and giving back to the communities that the brewery operates in across the country.

Launching Beyond the Brew initiative at Old Naledi kgotla on Saturday, Assistant Minister for State President, Mr Dumezweni Mthimkhulu thanked KBL for choosing to launch its community outreach programme, for the first time ever in the country, at Old Naledi.

The launch, he said, signified KBL’s commitment to showing what it was doing beyond its daily brewing of quality beer.

Mr Mthimkhulu also applauded KBL for combining the launch with a clean-up campaign to demonstrate its commitment to ensuring a secure and save environment from pollution and all forms of degradation.

The litter-picking mission and cleanliness campaign, Mr Mthimkhulu said, was done in recognition and commemoration of the World Environment Day themed: Beat Plastic Pollution, which required both public and corporate citizens to play a meaningful role in advocating for and advancing environmental public outreach.

“We are here to raise awareness about environmental issues, the increasing deteriorating pollution conditions and adverse climate change.

More importantly, we are here to protect the environment and fundamentally save our planet, Earth,” he said.

Explaining the objectives of KBL’s Beyond the Brew community outreach programme, the brewery’s managing director, Mr Carlos Bernitt said as a corporate citizen the company was obliged to ensure it created a sustainable positive impact in the lives of people, most directly and indirectly affected by the brewery’s operations.

“We also encourage our employees to dedicate time to giving back to the communities within which we operate, that is those in the areas around our plants.

This is because these communities house our employees, future employees, our partners, customers and consumers - all who form part of our expansive value chain,” he added.

Mr Bernitt said KBL also saw it fit to visit Old Naledi and commemorate World Environment Day with the community in the area, as a way to develop a key partnership with them. ENDs
