22 May 2023

Diamonds women’s team and Flames men are Botswana Softball Masters Association (BOSMA) tournament championships.

Diamonds women defended the title  when they defeated Free Souls on Saturday in the final played at the National Diamond in Gaborone.

Their road to the final was an easy one as they clobbered MaYoung 7-0 and went on to hammer Diphala 7-0.

They caught Free Souls napping in the final and did not allow them to register a point but tore them apart with a humiliating 12-0 score.

In their road to the final, Free Souls annihilated the Saints 10-2.

In the men’s final, tables turned when two South African teams faced each other after eliminating Botswana teams.

Flames men walloped Best Batters 10-5 to claim the championship.

Best Batters failed to do their best from the first inning as Flames outclassed them during their bating slot.

Flames looked determined as they booked themselves a spot in the final by clobbering KDK 4-3.

Best Batters who are last year’s champions hammered Softball Dad’s 5-2 on their way to the final.

Presenting the medals and trophies to the winners, former Dinare player, Tebelelo Seretse applauded BOSMA for hosting the tournament for three years in a row.

She said former players should take the tournament seriously as it was also good for their health.

Seretse said tournament proceeds would be used to help one of their own who sacrificed most of his time ensuring that the National Diamond pitch was always ready to host games.

BOSMA chairperson, Gloria Gaosikelwe thanked the teams for their commitment.

She said though the tournament was an annual event, this time they were raising funds to construct a studio house for retired longtime grounds manager, Joseph Kgosiemang, commonly known as Uncle Joe who retired in 2018 due to ill health. ENDS
