BNSC establishes a Sports Hall of Fame
25 Nov 2013
Botswana will soon have a Sports Hall of Fame where its heroes and heroines are honoured.
The facility is set to be started with induction of the first entrants by the Botswana National Sports Council (BNSC) on December 18. BNSC chairman, Solly Reikeletseng told delegates of sporting codes at the council’s ordinary general meeting in Gaborone recently, that affiliates had already been asked to submit names of potential entrants.
"The project of Hall of Fame continues to be such important means towards preservation of the sport heritage and recognition to those who served sport with pride and dignity. To that end we have finally set a date of 28 December 2013 where we will be inducting the first entrants,” said Reikeletseng.
He said names submitted by affiliates would be screened by a committee responsible before a final decision was taken. Reikeletseng also assured that the BNSC would make sure that the public was involved in the process of identifying credible recipients. Meanwhile, he explained that BNSC was almost done in its search of a new chief executive officer.
Former CEO, Percy Raditladi left the post earlier this year because of ill health. “Our efforts to find replacement for Raditladi is near complete. We however have to wait for conclusion and guidance on the proposed Sports Bill which we have reason to believe is in the forseeble future. We will at the appropriate time inform you about the appointment of the candidate we have identified,” said the BNSC boss.
Thato Kgosimore is in the meantime holding fort as acting CEO. Ends
