The recently signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between First National Bank Botswana (FNBB) and Boitekanelo College will equip leaners with concrete and knowledge needed in the 21st century business environment.
Speaking at the signing ceremony in Gaborone recently, FNBB human capital business partner, Ms Maureen Otukile said the MoU marked the bank’s readiness to fully support the country’s Vision 2036 pillar related to the sustainable economic development which encompassed knowledge based economy and human capital development.
“As part of our social responsibility, the bank has taken a deliberate decision to partner with local universities and colleges to unearth young talent and expose them to the world of work at an early age,” Ms Otukile said.
Outlining the MoU objectives, Ms Otukile stated that the partnership would also give FNBB staff with requisite skills, an opportunity and platform to impart knowledge and skills to students as well as exchange best practices in other areas of mutual interest.
She said they would receive continuing students and graduates for development programmes, industrial attachment and career coaching. “We are delighted to have Boitekanelo College as the first partner to collaborate with us to mark the beginning of this deliberate plan in enhancing the quality of life-long learning in Botswana and prepare students for a better fit in the world of work,” she said
Boitekanelo College representative, Mr Sam Raditloko said the initiative would not only benefit the two organisations but the students as well.
“The marriage between our two institutions will change our students’ lives in terms of job opportunities and career development,” Mr Raditloko said.
Boitekanelo head of marketing and communications, Mr Bikie Phethogo said the first cohort of students to benefit from the initiative for a period of 24 months would be those enrolled in occupational health and safety programme. ENDS
