Tlokweng United Centre Chiefs in exciting stalemate

02 Apr 2023

Mochudi Centre Chiefs and Tlokweng United (TU) served up an exciting encounter that ended in a two-all draw.

The pulsating Debswana First Division South League encounter was played before a sizeable crowd at the Tlokweng VDC Ground Saturday. However, TU remained perched on the eighth spot with 18 points, just two points away from the relegation catfight.

Chiefs and TU provided plenty of entertainment with neat ball passing and attacking intensity from the first whistle until the end of regulation time.

It was TU’s tricky midfielder, Thuto Mooketsane, who shone brightest scoring two beautiful goals, one in each half to bag a well-deserved brace.

With five minutes remaining on the clock to the halftime break, Mooketsane tapped in a nice team build-up to silence hundreds of Magosi fans who were now in good spirits.

The silky youngster nearly doubled the home side’s lead after escaping a couple of Chiefs defenders, but shot wide.

At the other end, Chiefs nearly restored parity but their skipper Khumoetsile Kufigwa’s snapshot hit the upright and was waved offside by the second assistant referee.

Chiefs knitted a couple of good passes in the middle of the park but failed to find the target.

During the run of play, newly introduced Goitseone Bokhutlo pulled one back for his side.

But Mooketsane extended the lead with a stern finish outside the box.

TU celebrations lasted only a few seconds as another second-half substitute, Nonofo Dikutu, looped a long ball past the goalkeeper who had completely switched off and stepped far of his line.

In other league games played the same afternoon Matebele maintained their five-point lead at the top after edging 2-1 past Matebejana at Holy Ghost park.

Notwane registered their second consecutive defeat falling 0-1 to the red-hot Young Stars FC.

VTM inched into the third spot after beating the beleaguered URI Black Forest 1-0 in Mmankgodi.

Uniao Flamingo Santos beat relegation-bound Black Rangers 3-2 to move into mid-table. ENDS
