GU Prisons clash tomorrow
30 Mar 2023
A DTCB Women Division One League fixture slated for Lekidi Centre tomorrow will see Gaborone United and Prisons square up.
GU are still seething with anger after a recent 2-4 loss to log leaders, Double Action.
Therefore, GU would take the field with the aim to redeem their pride and win against Prisons who on one hand would also want to bag the three valuable points following a two-all draw against FC Ambassadors.
GU are currently occupying the second spot on the log table with 18 points from eight games, out of which they won six and lost two.
Prisons are at the third spot, just four points behind GU, having won four games, drawn two and lost two.
A win for Prisons would place them a point short from GU while the latter on the other hand would also be hoping to win and reduce the six-point gap between them and top flight Double Action.
That means both the benches are wary of what is at stake and would enter the field with only thing in mind, victory.
In an interview, Prisons coach, Quelch Moroke said they had prepared well for GU and all their players were available for selection, expect goalkeeper Refiloe Tshambani who was nursing an injury and Lesego Keleboge would also miss the game.
Moroke said their preparations for the Saturday encounter included working more on the defence line given that they had been scoring and conceding goals at the same time.
“We have to win the game in order to put pressure on GU. All is not lost even when there is a four-point gap between us. We have a plan that will see us through after 90 minutes,” he said.
GU coach, Innocent Morapedi, said the fact that Prisons were on the third spot was not by fluke hence they deserved all the respect.
As such, Morapedi said this would require his players to be merciless as they go into the field and go for nothing else but a win.
“Losing against Double Action was a set-back for us more so that they beat us 1-0 in the first round,” he said.
Morapedi said they had also been preparing well for encounter considering that Prisons would also be looking to avenge their loss in the first round.
“So we expect them to fight and possibly more than what Double Action did. That means we have to fight really hard and win this game and redeem our pride,” he said.
He lamented the injuries in his camp, but was adamant that it would not discourage them to fight to the bitter end.
Meanwhile, other games to be played on Saturday will feature Double Action versus UB Kicks at Lekidi West at 9am, Wonder Girls would play Township Rollers at Lekidi East at 4pm while FC Ambassadors and Security Systems would square off at Lekidi West. ENDS
