First division south league heats up
30 Mar 2023
With five games remaining until the curtain falls, the battle for honours and survival gains exciting traction with every passing weekend in the Debswana First Division South league campaign.
Daggers are once again drawn as teams prepare for week 17 of the exciting and closely contested campaign.
All the top four teams are playing a chasing game and any single point dropped is one too many.
Log leaders, Matebele, sitting on 34 points travel to the Holy Ghost Park on Saturday for a tricky encounter against Matebejana.
Tigerkloof, as Matebejana are fondly called, face a stern test as they try to move away from the dreaded relegation zone.
Their fixture against the red hot Kuka Ntsu might prove to be the latest test to the latter’s title credentials.
Matebejana are also looking for all the maximum points as they are well placed for a respectable finish in mid table.
High octane action is expected at the Black Forest arena in Mmankgodi when the hosts URI Black Forest welcome VTM.
The homeside has been struggling in form, but will look to build on the solid performance at the weekend after collecting maximum points against Gabane Santos.
In VTM, Magoleng face a team of impressive mentality with a new coach who has instilled a sense of pride and humility.
Without doubt, VTM’s gaffer, Leutlwetse Tshireletso, has done a good job at the VTM arena keeping a clean sheet and collecting all the six points in his first two assignments.
Bafana Ba Dijabane have inched into the top four bracket after a shocking 3-0 victory over Notwane this past weekend and have more tests lined up before harbouring any ambitions of promotion to top flight football.
Notwane, also known as MaCat, can close the gap on log leaders as they head to the SSG ground to face Young Stars.
The youthful Stars will be encouraged by their past performance against Tlokweng United and this might prove an acid test for Thaloba Nthaga boys.
Third placed Crackit City Polar have an easy task at the UB stadium against struggling Broadhurst United.
They will try to get back to winning ways after being halted by their arch rivals Mochudi Centre Chiefs over the past weekend.
Magosi who are yet to lose a match under the watchful eye of new coach Patrick Molefe travel to Tlokweng for a date against Tlokweng United.
At the bottom of the league log Black Rangers are still searching for a single point since gaining promotion to the first division campaign. They welcome wounded Santos in Tsabong. ENDS
