Water project due for completion this month

The emergency water project to address water supply challenges at Charleshill and Makunda has been delayed. Initially, the project was anticipated to be completed by December last year.

Responding to a question on behalf of lands and water affairs minister recently, Assistant Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Mr Mabuse Pule said the new anticipated completion date was this month (March 2023). 

Mr Pule explained that there were some delays in acquiring the pipeline servitude and tank-site extension at Xanagas from the freehold farm owner. He added that the tender for the Xanagas to Charleshill emergency water supply project was currently at adjudication stage and was estimated to be awarded at the beginning of next month (April).

“The project is expected to be implemented in six months from the beginning of May and for completion by end of October this year,” he added. 

Further, he told Parliament that emergency water bowsing was put in place as a contingency measure to augment water supply to the affected villages of Charleshill and Makunda.He indicated that GAB-MOD Holdings (Pty) Limited was awarded a service contract for the water bowsing works. Ghanzi South Member of Parliament, Mr Motsamai Motsamai had asked the minister to brief Parliament on the status of Charleshill and Makunda water supply situation.Mr Motsamai also wanted to establish the company engaged for water bowsing from Xanagas to Charleshill as well as the amount it was paid for the two water bowsers leased by Water Utilities Corporation (WUC).
