Districts committed to sport dev. programme

Consultation with key stakeholders on implementation of the National Sport Development Programme across 16 districts is complete, Botswana National Sports Commission (BNSC) CEO, Tuelo Serufho, has announced.
Speaking during a media briefing in Gaborone yesterday, he said the programme would have synergy with Re Ba Bona Ha programme to turn young athletes into super stars
Sprinter, Letsile Tebogo, is one of the examples of how talent development can birth stars.
He was groomed through Botswana Primary School Sporting Association (BOPSA) and Botswana Integrated Sports Association (BISA) programmes.
So, the sport development programme will entail establishment of comparable development centres with emphasis on seven sport codes; football, volleyball, tennis, softball, boxing, athletics and netball.
Serufho said the districts, which were consulted, showed committment to participate in the programme, adding that nine had already appointed coordinators with the remaining seven given up to March 24 to do so.
All the seven national aport associations, whose sporting codes are on the pilot programme, have appointed district sport convenors and national ones.
As at the original deadline for expressions of interest to serve as volunteers in the programme, 535 people applied across all the 16 districts.
Serufho said sport equipment had been purchased and would be distributed to various districts before the end of March 2023, mentioning that guidelines governing the equipment had been developed and shared with the districts. ENDS
