Gunners lose to Angels

20 Mar 2023

Extension Gunners’ ship sank further when the team lost 0-1 to Eleven Angels in a premier league game on Saturday.

Eleven Angels’ Shanganani Ngada scored the only goal of the game through a header in the 38th minute after receiving a telling pass from Thuso Monyama

Though Eleven Angels dominated the first half, they failed to convert opportunities into goals, much to the disappointment of their fans who thronged the old Francistown stadium in numbers.

With such dominance, it was clear from start that Eleven Angels would sail through easily given Gunners’ ‘aged’ defense wall, which failed to contain youthful attackers.

To repel the attacks, Gunners resorted to playing long balls, but Eleven Angels’ defence closed down all attempts.

The two teams went into recess with Eleven Angels leading.

They returned from break still a better side exerting more pressure on their visitors, something that did not go well with Gunners’s coach, Thabo ‘Mahala’ Motang.

However, the middle of the second half saw the two teams matching pound for pound in search of goals.

On one hand, Omphile Vissagie made several efforts to equalise, but could not get the necessary support from the much experienced players such as Katlego Mothibi, Bafana Desire and Brendon Kenosi.

At some point, Omphile missed a header inside the 18 box as he headed wide.

Eleven Angels substitution could not produce the required spark until referee, Keabetswe Dintwa blew the whitsle for end of the game.

In a post-match interview, Motang said his boys played under pressure, but he was optimistic that Gunners would not relegate.

“Ï still believe that we will survive the relegation axe only if we can be united as a team,” he added. He said this could only be achieved if the team could win two or three games.

Eleven Angels coach, Seemo Mpatane, said it was tough to play against Gunners.

He said Gunners had experienced players who should not be taken for granted even though the team was at the bottom of the league log.

However, Mpatane commended his boys to have taken their past assignments seriously as evidenced by winning four games in a raw. ends
