Financial constraints affect Gumare hospital project
20 Nov 2013
The Minister of Health, Dr Seakgosing, has told Parliament that Gumare District Hospital was planned for in NDP 10.
Answering a question from the MP for Ngami, Mr Taolo Habano, the minister said government had not been able to accommodate it in the 2013/2014 and 2014/2015 budgets due to financial constraints.
He said the project would be re-considered when funds become available. He said phase one of the project was completed in August 2012 adding that taking into consideration establishment growth in the health sector, accommodation shortages could not be ruled out.
However, he said government would continue to explore various ways of addressing staff accommodation shortages. MP Habano had asked the minister to update the house on the state of the long awaited Gumare Primary Hospital and whether phase one of the project which was accommodation for the hospital staff had been completed resulting in no more staff accommodation shortages being experienced.
