Matebele sits atops first division south league log after drubbing Flamingo Santos 3-1 on Sunday.
The Sunday result changed the league’s log standings, relegating Notwane to second and Crackit City Polar to third spot following their Saturday goalless draw.
Following the 3-1 victory, Matebele have accumulated 28 points followed by Notwane and Crackit City Polar on second and third spots respectively, having accumulated 27 points each.
Notwane came into the Saturday top of the clash as log leaders, followed by Crackit City Polar on second position while Matebele was on third position with 25 points.
An epic was expected between Notwane and Crackit City Polar as both were eyeing the summit of the log, but the game failed to live to expectations as the encounter ended in a goalless draw.
Crackit City Polar coach, Thabo Mothibi has, in a post-match interview, revealed that even though a draw was not the desired result, the team would settle for the earned point is it was better than a loss.
Mothibi said Notwane was an attacking team, therefore they denied them room for showcasing its attacking prowess.
He said marking Notwane players tightly had proved to be fruitful as the team was not able to play its usual attacking game.
Mothibi said his team was wasteful in front of opponent goals, resulting in so many draws. In their 14 played games, Crackit City Polar have won seven, drawn six and lost one.
“They played well, but hardily threatened our goal keeper. We on the other hand managed to penetrate their defence and only failed to convert,” he said.
Meanwhile, Notwane care taker coach, Kanyenga Kashiwa said his team was aware that the encounter was bound to be tough as it was a clash of supremacy between two teams at the top of the first division south log.
Kashiwa said the team prepared well for the encounter and based on the caliber of the encounter, a draw was a possible result.
“Our intention was not to lose the game at all. We want to stay among the top three and finish in one of the top three positions at the end of the season. We did everything right, attack when it was time to do so and did likewise in defence. I cannot say our players have blundered in anyway,” he said.
In other matches played over the weekend, Mochudi Centre Chiefs defeated Black Rangers 2-1, VTM FC lost 0-1 to Tlokweng United, and Young Stars whitewashed Matebejana 3-0, while Broadhurst United defeated URI Black Forest 1-0. Ends
