BDP celebrates Malatswae victory
26 Feb 2023
Acting President, Mr Slumber Tsogwane, has called on Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) members to lure old members and continue to register new members to their party.
He was speaking on Saturday in Malatswae where BDP members celebrated Malatswae ward’s victory in the 2019 general elections.
He said party members should also encourage those who defected to opposition parties to come back because there was no alternative to BDP.
Mr Tsogwane nevertheless said the victory celebrations did not only serve to appreciate those who voted for BDP in the 2019 general elections, but also encourage people to consider voting for it in the coming general elections.
He encouraged democrats to work hard to ensure the party wins the 2024 general elections.
He advised members against falling for the gimmicks of the opposition parties who always made promises without any record of performance.
He said BDP was the only party with good plans for Batswana and a manifesto that promised a renewed hope for the people.
Mr Tsogwane, also BDP chairperson, said despite challenges brought about by the COVD-19 pandemic, which disturbed some of the government programmes, BDP managed to deliver most of the 2019 election manifesto promises.
For example, he said, the BDP promised Batswana that if they voted it into power, the constitution would be reviewed and consequently national consultation on same was already complete.
He said BDP also managed to pass the Economic Inclusion Bill of 2021 in order to promote effective participation of targeted citizen in economic growth and development.
Mr Tsogwane said the BDP had also succeeded in upgrading some sub-councils to fully fledged councils.
He said the decision to upgrade the sub-councils to fully fledged ones would mean that the services would be closer to the people.
Mr Tsogwane appealed to Batswana to vote for BDP because it would continue to deliver its promises.
He reminded Malatswae constituents to always remember Councillor Bernard Kenosi’s selflessness, philanthropic and kind gesture to them.
Regional secretary (central region) Mr Gaselarona Rapelang encouraged central region constituents to vote for BDP in large numbers in the 2024 general election.
He pleaded with members of BDP who joined opposition parties in 2019 to return to their party.
For his part, Mr Kenosi thanked all those who made it possible for him to be a councillor.
He appreciated Malatswae ward voters and everyone who trusted and believed in him.
Mr Kenosi also said he was humbled by the trust and the confidence of Malatswae voters. Ends
