Construction of the Moletemane road has been slow due to delayed approval of the Environment Impact Assessment (EIA) as well as poor performance of the contractor.
This was said by Minister of Transport and Public Works, Mr Eric Molale answering a question in Parliament on Tuesday.
Minister Molale said the ministry had arranged to assist the contractor with direct procurement of some materials, adding “this would enable the contractor to complete the project by the end of June this year.”
He indicated that the project was awarded on June 17, 2019 and was planned to be completed on March 17, 2020 but the completion date was revised to end of June this year.
The Moletemane road project entailed block paving of 19km road section that branches off the Sefophe-Zanzibar road near Tsetsebjwe village. MP for Bobonong, Mr Taolo Lucas had wanted to know when the road project was awarded and the envisaged completion date.
Mr Lucas had also asked the minister if he was aware of the little progress in the construction of the road, the cause of the delay and what plans and targets were in place for its completion. ends
