The Assistant Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Ms Botlogile Tshireletso says the country has 603 councillors of which 113 are nominated.

She said each nominated councilor earned a combined annual salary of P78, 933, 168. 00 and were projected to get a combined gratuity of P9, 866, 646, 00. The assistant minister however informed Parliament that she was not certain about the number of nominated councilors belonging to different political parties.

“Councillors are not nominated according to party affiliation. Therefore, I cannot say with certainty how many of the Botswana Democratic Party, Botswana National Front, and Botswana Congress Party members were nominated at the time of nomination,” she stated .

She was answering a question from Francistown South MP, Mr Wynter Mmolotsi who had asked about the number of nominated councillors, and the number belonging to each political party. ENDS
