Distance to Area W clinic within acceptable radius

19 Nov 2013

Parliament has been told that the distance travelled by residents from Francistown South constituency to Area W clinic is about four kilometres, which is within the acceptable five kilometres radius.

Answering a question in Parliament, the Minister of Health, Dr John Seakgosing said due to financial and human resource constraints, his ministry did not have any plans to upgrade either Masego or Lapologang clinics into 24 hour services.

He said resource permitting, upgrading of facilities into 24 hour services will be prioritised based on factors such as proximity to nearby health facilities and patient workload.

MP for Francistown South, Mr Wynter Mmolotsi had asked the minister if he was aware of the long distance travelled by residents of the Francistown south constituency area to Area W at the night when they are sick. He also asked when will the minister consider converting either Masego or Lapologang clinics into 24 hour service.  ENDS
