Markers trail maps due along Tropic of Capricorn

15 Feb 2023

The Ministry of Environment and Tourism is looking to develop markers and trail maps to harness the tourism potential along the Tropic of Capricorn.

Answering a question in Parliament, on behalf of the environment and tourism minister on Tuesday, Mr Sethabelo Modukanele said the project would start with identifying points where the line crossed the main roads such as the A2 highway connecting Kang and Ghanzi and where it crossed the Molepolole-Serowe road during the next financial year.

Mr Modukanele explained that the Tropic of Capricorn cut through the peripheries of Dovedale, Mokgenene and Pallaroad villages in the Mahalapye area, Boatlaname and Shadishadi in the Kweneng District as well as Hunhukwe, Ncaang, Metsimantle and Ukwi in the Hukuntsi area.

Member of Parliament for Takatokwane, Mr Tshoganetso Leuwe had wanted to know regions or villages through which the Tropic of Capricorn passed in Botswana.

Mr Leuwe also wanted to know if the ministry had any plans to demarcate or mark for visibility where the line passed to stimulate the tourism sector in those areas. ENDS
