Women paramount in party preservation - Serame
14 Feb 2023
Women's Wing chairperson, Ms Peggy Serame, says their role is to help the party retain power in the 2024 general elections.
Speaking during a BDP rally in Moshupa on Sunday, she said women formed the basis and cornerstone of the party.
Ms Serame, who is also Minister of Finance, said the BDP was blessed with qualities and traits that one could think of, and that it was evident from the numerous projects undertaken by the BDP led government.
She said life was paramount and that was why the larger portion of the budget went to life saving programmes.
She said the BDP government was doing everything in its power to buy medicines and to ensure its availability in health facilities across the country.
She added that there was no alternative to the ruling party .
Speaking at the same rally, Kanye South MP, Dr Lemogang Kwape said when Botswana attained independence, the leadership had to develop the country from nothing.
He said there was only three kilometres of a tarred road from Kanye police to Motlhala ward.
Dr Kwape, who is also Minister of Foreign Affairs, said Botswana was one of the poorest countries in the world with no tarred roads, no health and education facilities as well as other amenities.
He added that since independence, Botswana had gained international recognition as a peaceful and prosperous democratic state.
He also said Botswana had good relations with its neighbours and the international community. He said the country was also a good investment and tourism destination due to the respect for the rule of law.
He implored democrats to uphold positive qualities for a better Botswana.
For his part, Kanye North MP, Mr Thapelo Letsholo urged democrats to unite ahead of the 2024 general elections.
He said the BDP led government undertook water projects that were geared to quench the thirst and that it also brought services closer to Batswana to improve their livelihood.
He said his party was people centric as Batswana now had a larger share of the economy.
He said retaining BDP constituencies and winning those that belonged to the opposition was the goal in the 2024 general elections. Ends
