Bray border reopens
04 Jan 2023
Bray Border post is now back in operation after Molopo Farmers Association chairperson Mr Gerrie Marnewick rescued the situation by volunteering to maintain the affected gravel road stretch on South Africa side back to a useable state.
Bray border post was closed on new year day due to the bad road state caused by recent torrential rains in South Africa. The situation had affected movement of people crossing between Botswana and South Africa at Bray where vehicles stuck on the road.
Speaking in an interview on January 3, Mr Marnewick said after making assesments of the situation and its effects on his business and the general public he quickly negotiated with authorities in South Africa to send his front loader machine to fix the affected gravel road stretch in South Africa. Mr Marnewick was prompted by the fact that movement of people and freight had halted. He appreciated South Africa immigration authorities for the warm reception, which enabled smooth and swift works.
For her part, acting regional immigration officer for Gantsi/ Kgalagadi, Ms Gomolemo Mogatusi appreciated the Botswana commercial farmer for his noble gesture, which led to the reopening of the border post earlier today. Ms Mogatusi further appreciated the good working relations between immigration staff at Bray and the public during the time when when the border was closed.
Bray border opens at 8am and closes 4pm everyday.ENDS
