Borolong festive generally calm peaceful

Unlike in the yesteryears, Borolong District experienced a quiet and calm festive with few reported cases of lawlessness.
Normally the area experiences incidents of rape and murder, but this time around the police did not register any since the festive season commenced.
In an interview, Good Hope Police Station commander, Superintendent Batshwari Gaobatlelwe said his policing area is unusually very quiet.
He, however, said they have registered few incidents of unlawful wounding in villages such as Mmathethe, Tsoaneng and Kgoro.
Mr Gaobatlelwe said the victims, who are suspected to have been hit or stabbed with sharp objects were treated at Good Hope Primary Hospital and released while investigations continue.
Furthermore, he pointed out that they are still grappling with stock theft cases mostly committed by the youth.
He said they have so far detained some youths aged 15-30 in connection with stock theft, adding that some cattle have been confiscated because the alleged owners could not account for them.
He said some thieves tend to steal animals from one village, drive them to the next village to get brand them.
Mr Gaobatlelwe said this group of men usually bring their friends along as witnesses, saying authorities have since decided that when young people seek permits to sell livestock, they should bring their parents or guardians along, not friends.
Meanwhile Good Hope Police Station traffic officer, Assistant Superintendent Moses Gaboswele said they have charged seven people for driving under the influence of alcohol between Christmas Eve and Xmas Day.
He said a pedestrian aged 36 was hit by a car jnext to the taxi rank on Christmas Day.
Asst Supt Gaboswele said the driver was taken in for questioning and passed the sobriety test while they are still waiting for the victim’s results, saying they have taken the blood samples to check if the victim was sober when the accident occured.
The victim is currently at Good Hope Primary Hospital where he is receiving medical attention while investigations continue.
The police have also detained a man who is suspected to have knocked a seven-year old-child with a vehicle and fled the scene at Magoriapitse.
He said that the parents of the victim together with community members managed to arrest the perpetrator, who later failed the sobriety test.
He is in custody helping with investigations.
Mr Gaboswele said the victim sustained minor injuries and was treated and released the same day.
He expressed concern that people are fond of drunken driving, adding that some pedestrians also drink and walk along roads, rendering themselves susceptible to accidents.
At the time of going to press, Ramatlabama and Phitshane police had recorded no incidents. Ends
