Troopers meet Spartans in title showdown

14 Nov 2013

The destiny of Botswana Basketball League men’s title might be decided tonight (November 15) after the match between title contenders Troopers and Spartans at the SSKB in Mogoditshane.

Defending champions Spartans and league leaders, Troopers are level at the top with 36 points as the league draws to completion. Spartans would be playing their last match of the season while Troopers have an advantage of a game in hand.

Troopers need to win against their bitter rivals for them to be crowned champions. Even though things look gloomy for Spartans, they still have a chance of retaining their title. For that to happen, they must beat Troopers and then hope that their rivals lose their remaining game.

Troopers, which is the most successful team in local basketball has been in great form this season and hold an upper hand going into this game. They have won all their 18 matches, including beating Spartans 65-53 in the two teams’ first round match.

The match will kick-off at 8pm. In other men’s matches scheduled for this weekend, third-placed Dolphins have a chance of jumping into a champion qualification spot should they win their matches against Botho University Saints and Bullets in Jwaneng on Saturday. Second from the bottom Saints will then face Bullets in another match in Jwaneng, while Splinters will take on Police at the SSKB.

In the women’s category, Police, which have already been crowned champions, have a chance to underline their supremacy when they meet UB Relics at the SSKB on Friday, November 15. On Saturday, November 16, Splinters will play against Dolphins in a battle of the bottom teams. ENDS
