Ministry to establish medicine warehouse

Ministry of Health plans to establish medicines and commodity warehouses at various locations within the country including the Southern District Health Management Team, which covers Jwaneng/Mabutsane constituency in the National Development Plan 12, owing to funds availability.

The Assistant Minister of Health Mr Sethomo Lelatisitswe said thus when answering a question in Parliament, noting that the warehouse was proposed for Kanye as the DHMT headquarters, and was envisaged to service the entire Southern DHMT.

Mr Lelatisitswe said the establishment of the warehouses across the country would help in the decentralisation of medicines and commodities in the districts.

He said currently, there were two small warehouses in Jwaneng and Mabutsane to cater for commodities needs within the Jwaneng/Mabutsane constituency.

Regarding the number of state-owned laboratories in the constituency, he said there were two including Unit 7 in Jwaneng and Mabutsane Clinic.

He said the healthcare staff complement in the constituency included seven doctors, 130 nurses, eight pharmacy technicians, five laboratory technicians, 22 healthcare assistants and 19 health education assistants.

On whether the facilities were sufficient for staff, the assistant minister explained that there were 58 staff house in the constituency with additional five under construction at Khakhea.

Mr Lelatisitswe was responding to a question from Jwaneng/Mabutsane MP, Mr Mephato Reatile, who wanted to be appraised on the number of staff housing and plans to set up a mini Central Medical Stores as a distribution centre to the western block in the constituency. ENDS
