Tribal Admin not left out

13 Dec 2022

The Department of Tribal Administration has not been left out in the implementation of phase one of the decentralisation policy, Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Mr Sethabelo Modukanele has said.

In response to parliamentary question, Mr Modukanele said tribal administration, just like other government departments, was required to provide services in line with normal district staffing norms following the recent approval to restructure seven councils by upgrading 15 subordinates authorities to full fledged councils.

He also noted that the ministry had no intention to review Tribal Territories Act, but if there was any clause that warranted reviewing, the ministry was open to the advise.

Nkange MP, Dr Never Tshabang had wanted to know why Tribal Administration was left behind when government implemented the decentralisation policy phase 1 and if there were any considerations to review the Tribal Territories Act. ENDS
