Ministry prioritises LIMID backlogs

08 Dec 2022

The Ministry of Agriculture is making efforts to clear the Livestock Management and Infrastructure Development (LIMID) phase II backlog which accumulated over the years due to the continuous submission of applications that did not tally the available budget.

In response to a question in Parliament, the assistant minister of agriculture Mr Molebatsi Molebatsi noted that the ministry continues to give priority to these backlogs by sourcing transport and pooling resources from other departments in different districts.

In the past, we have suspended receipt of new applications in September of every year to clear the backlogs and some notable progress has been made, he said.

He said while the backlogs were sometimes caused by failure of beneficiaries to raise the required down payment, especially on infrastructure development components, the ministry made attempts to encourage beneficiaries to raise the payments.

Mr Molebatsi however noted that Francistown West which falls within the city had no backlogs.

Francistown West MP Mr Ignatius Moswaane had asked the minister about initiatives in place to address the LIMID backlog. ENDs
