14 Nov 2013

Lehututu Junior Secondary School is the only school to be maintained in the 2013/14 financial year out of the four schools in the Kgalagadi region.

Answering a question in Parliament, Assistant Minister of Education and Skills Development, Mr Patrick Masimolole said there had been a delay in starting the maintenance work at the school since the first tender was cancelled and was currently at re-tendering stage.

Mr Masimolole said the other schools being Matsha College, Lehutshelo Junior Secondary School would be maintained in 2014/14 financial year while Motaung Junior Secondary School would be maintained in 2015/16 financial year.

He also indicated that the teaching staff compliment at Matsha College is 96, having two staffrooms which could only accommodate 75 teachers. The remaining 11 teachers, Mr Masimolole said are accommodated in their subjects work rooms such as the Science laboratories, technical drawing rooms and Home Economics Laboratories.

Kgalagadi North Member of Parliament Mr Phillip Khwae had asked the minister to state the teaching staff compliment for Matsha College and whether the staff room was adequate to accommodate all the teachers.

He also wanted to know how the minister intended to remedy the situation. Mr Khwae further asked whether Matsha College, Lehutshelo, Motaung, Lehututu Secondary schools had been included in the major maintenance plan for the 2013/14 financial year. ENDS
