No plans to build kitchen at Sesholo
30 Nov 2022
There are no plans at the moment to build a kitchen at Sesholo Junior Secondary School.
Responding to a question in Parliament, Assistant Minister of Education and Skills Development, Mr Aubrey Lesaso said school kitchens were upgraded as and when schools were expanded with additions of dining halls and modern kitchens.
Mr Lesaso said the ministry had standard plans for junior secondary schools, which included either an outdoor or an indoor kitchen, noting that schools with indoor kitchens had been upgraded during school expansion when other additional facilities may be added.
He said both gas and electric cooking pots were fitted to replace wood-burning pots when facilities were upgraded.
Further, he stated that schools using firewood were compliant with government policy on environment and natural resources conservation and were abiding by the confines of the policy by using only firewood supplied by licensed suppliers.
Sefhare/Ramokgonami legislator, Dr Kesitegile Gobotswang had asked the minister if he was aware that there were schools without proper or no kitchen facilities while some continued to use firewood contrary to government policy on environment and natural resource conservation. Ends
