Ministry to introduce injectable antiretroviral medicine
21 Nov 2022
Botswana through the Clinical Guidelines Committee has adopted the use of injectable anti-retroviral (ARV) medications, which are anticipated in the country after June 2023.
“The injectable antiretroviral medicines given every two months for both prevention and treatment will no doubt improve adherence to HIV treatment in our country,” Minister of Health, Dr Edwin Dikoloti said during his update on the state of drugs and medical supplies in health facilities in Parliament on Friday.
Dr Dikoloti said the injectable ARV medication formula would comprise cabotegravir and Rilpirvirine.
He highlighted that Cabotegravir injection had already been registered by the Botswana Medicines Regulatory Authority while Rilpirvirine was still undergoing registration process. ENDS
