Regional office rolls out strategy

16 Nov 2022

Staffing of Tapologo Secondary School in Werda including teachers and senior management will ensure optimal efficiency and competency.

Answering a question in Parliament Minister of Education and Skills Development, Dr Douglas Letsholathebe said the school had not been doing well as their results trend for the past five years were below the regional and national targets.

He said there was a slight improvement in merit, A and B per cent pass rates in recent years after a poor performance in 2019 of 2.78 per cent up to 4.35 per cent in 2021 with an overall credit pass of 15.7 per cent in the school.  He said the improvement was partly as a result of intensive efforts by regional staff working directly with the school to account for performance. He said since 2018 the school had been implementing a plan for results improvement and has been reporting progress on a monthly basis.

He said the regional education office had rolled out a results improvement strategy for quality pass improvement through involvement of all stakeholders to support students and teacher motivation by funding, sponsoring, getting involved in activities that encouraged healthy competition between schools, students and teachers. He said the strategy had been shared with the school village and district leadership.

He said the school pastoral department had embarked on a number of results improvement strategies including co-parenting by teachers and supervised study groups coordinated by Heads of Departments.

He said incubation of AB potential learners, guided morning study and extra lessons, intensified supervision by school management and mini prize giving ceremonies sponsored by stakeholders were part of the regional improvement strategy.

He was responding to a question from Kgalagadi South MP Mr Samuel Brooks who had asked the minister if he was aware of the performance status of Tapologo Secondary School in Werda.

Mr Brooks wanted the minister to explain future plans for the school. ENDS
