Govt to upgrade Tutume Hospital

16 Nov 2022

Government plans to upgrade Tutume Primary Hospital from a 42 to a 70 beds hospital.

Assistant Minister of Health Mr Setlhomo Lelatisitswe told Parliament that the project which was currently at design review would commence during the 2023/2024 financial year.

He said commencement of construction of the hospital was delayed by the advent of the COVID-19 pandemic as funds for most of the projects including Tutume Hospital were redirected to fight the pandemic.

He added that a plot for the construction of the hospital had been secured and topographical assessments were completed in 2018.

Mr Lelatisitswe said consultants were also appointed in 2019 to design the hospital.

He said the project was currently at stage three of the design review which after approval by the ministry would go for tendering for construction to commence.

He noted that the Ministry of Finance had advised that the scope be reviewed so that it fell within budget as it had exceeded the budget of P170million.

He added that his ministry and the Ministry of Transport and Public works were to review the design and work on measures to reduce the scope for alignment with the budget.

He was responding to a question from Nkange MP Mr Never Tshabang who had asked the minister to update Parliament on the upgrading of the Hospital and further stated the commencement date of construction and what caused delays. ENDS
